So drunk me is gonna handle this. Mazda says the current mazda 2 be hella sporty and they're gauging reaction to a possible mazdaspeed variant but it will take a few years. expect turbo power if such a beast arises. Official word from exec: "It'd be cool. We'll see."

Mazda dudes want rotaries as much we do. They're trying to find ways to make them past emissions regs and right now that says hybrids with rotaries. They're currently working on a hybrid Mazda 2 that uses an electric drivetrain with a 600cc single rotor engine IN THE SPARE TIRE WELL. shit's dope as hell.

On-sale dates for the new-body 2, CX-3 (should have been called CX-2, but I guess crossovers and nanovans and roadsters get odd number -# designations e.g. CX-5, 9, Mazda5, MX-5), refreshed CX-9, and a better naming scheme. Sedans and hatches are fine where they are (2, 3, 6), but the SUVs, as touched on above, are a mess. CX-2, 3, and 6 or 7 (instead of the current CX-3, 5, and 9), MX-2 Miata (yes, even if it's been MX-5 for a quarter century), Mazda5 is OK, and plenty of room left for other additions, like an RX-#.

Sorry for the tangent. It's late and I need to be up in 5 hours.

1. Mazda has developed a rotary that can switch between hydrogen fuel and gasoline fuel at the touch of a button. If hydrogen ever catches on, we'll see a ton of badass rotaries. And the mid-engined Miata was considered in '89 but vetoed to build the NA we know and love.
